Hiring a plumber is an important step if you need plumbing work done on your home or business. However, the process can be stressful and complicated if you do not know what you are doing. Hiring the wrong plumber is a concern that is shared amongst a lot of different people, and you want to make sure you do everything you can to hire a plumber you can trust and who will do a good job on your project. The hardest part of hiring a plumber comes from the nature of the plumbing issue, as most need to be addressed as quickly as possible. Luckily, there are some quick questions you can ask that will help you through the hiring process.

Licensing

Make sure the plumber you contact and hire is licensed to work on the project you need done. Many states require plumbers to have a license, but some do not. You still want a plumber who is licensed, as that means they are fully trained and educated on all the different plumbing mechanisms. They will have the knowledge to complete your repairs and get your plumbing system working once again. Most plumbers will be proud to let you know they are licensed, so if the one you are talking to is not, look elsewhere for your plumbing project help.

Physical Address

A reputable plumbing company will have a physical address for mail and other needs, and you should be able to verify the address without any trouble. If the plumbing company does not have a physical address, it is far more likely to be a scam artist who is only out for your money and personal information. Avoid these contractors like the plague, as you do not want to be scammed and find yourself in a worse situation than you were before.

Insurance

A plumbing contractor should be insured to cover any on-the-job injuries or property damages that occur as a result of the job. You do not want to be on the hook for any repair bills or medical bills that were beyond your control. Make sure the company you hire is insured before you sign any sort of contract.

Business History

You should choose a reliable business that has been around for at least a few years. That way, you can be more certain that they will still be around if you need further repairs or need to have your warranties honored. A business that has not been around for a while is more likely to fail, and may even have just changed the name in order to avoid a bad reputation.
