Having clean drains is important for any home or business. The whole drain systems purpose is to dispose of waste water effectively, but when build up is present it makes it hard or impossible for water to pass through to where it needs to go.
Why Its Important To Have Clean Drains?
Clean drains keeps your plumbing happy and healthy. If you ignore keeping your drains cleared of any accumulations they will become clogged and blockage will occur, meaning more problems for you to deal with. In some cases it can throw off the balance of the pressure in your plumbing causing major issues such as cracked or ruptured pipes. Some of the most common clogs happen to sinks, toilets, shower drains, laundry drains, roof gutters, & out door pipes that get taken over by tree roots.
What Causes Blockage?
Main culprits for kitchen clogs are from food particles and grease, shower drains are most commonly clogged by soap scum and hair. Toilets are easily backed up by paper towels which don’t break up in water like toilet paper does. Here’s a list of stuff that you shouldn’t flush down your toilet bowl. Roof drainage aka gutters get blocked by fallen twigs and leaves which need to be cleaned out twice a year or more. If you neglect clearing them the weight of the water can send your gutter to come crashing down causing damage to your house.
- Use drain screens! They can help keep soap scum, hair, and other gunk from getting into the drain and depositing themselves.
- Don’t dump chemicals down the drain! This includes paint and paint thinner. Drano can even cause harm to your pipes.
- Never poor grease down your drain. It can make even the toughest drain cleaning job more difficult.
Tip – Clean all your sink stoppers regularly and poor boiling water down your drains.
